Invitation to sonify one part of a balloon flight

Graz is the center of mursat. mursat ist the first satellite developed in collaboration of artists and technicians, with fluid boundaries in between. One of our goals is to create testing environments to check the quality of our building models. The communication devices can be tested by being mounted on a ballon, and this is, what we want to do. It will still take some time to have our own balloon, but luckily we got a video from friends here in Graz, who filmed their balloon flight in 2011 and let us use it. We want to offer you snipets of this video to work with.

We invite you to sonify one part of a ballon flight.

The idea is: you chose one out of 23 parts of the video snipets you find here, and compose a sound to it. Once we get all sonified snipets, we want to merge them together to one piece again. Once a snipet is reserved by a musician/group, it is not available anymore. First come, first serve.

We contact about 30 musicians/composers to join us in this project. The frame to it is the next Interpenetration Festival, initiated and organized by chmafu nocords, taking place in Graz, Austria, in mid december 2012, at forum stadtpark.

They are going to be shown as inter-plays in the second floor of the festival center, replacing the commonly used "music in between" two gigs. We found it to be more interesting to have a different type of break between two sets and would love you to participate.

If the material allows it, we also want to put the whole video together again, and show it in one piece.

Please confirm your participation or send your negative reply until September, 17th, 2012; Richie will be responding starting on Sept 7th

Please finish your work until October, 15th, 2012

The Festival will take place December, 13 - 15th 2012

Format

We will take care of merging video and audio, so we would just ask you to send us your piece as .wav/aif or .flac (non-compressed audio data). If it is possbile, please upload your file and send us the respective link; if this is not possible for you, please email to richie@interstellarrecords.at .

Title

You can give a title to your piece; if you dont, it will just stay with the number, i.e. airflow05

Credits

Please send us all information regarding your piece (names of all people involved; if you wish: instruments used, and all other information you regard relevant) also until Oct. 15th.

Fee

There is no budget for this project, so there is also no fee. We are sorry for that.

Licence

The video is published in the Public Domain, so we ask you to publish your sound works also in the Public Domain, so that we can show them at the festival and also put them online.
